During November, I will be participating in this year’s NaNoWriMo. An online nationwide writing community that encourages and supports writers to complete a 1st draft novel of 50,000 words in the month of November. This will be my 8th year competing in my old region, back in Naperville, IL. Been part of this group since 2013. Many of its members are also part of my writing group, The Writing Journey. Eventualy I will look into the Phoenix. AZ region for NaNoWriMo.
This year’s NaNo novel will be a historical western fantasy titled: Return to Buzzard Junction. It’s set in the Old West, taking place in two side-by-side railroad towns–Timeless and Buzzard Junction–in the middle of the ‘Texas Kingdom.’ There’s a touch of history, Indian folklore, buzzards, clockworks, gunfights, ghost trains, and dark magic.
Timeless is a town stricken with a mysterious affliction: everyone has memory loss of an event that happened two months ago. It isn’t too long before gunslingers and other troublemakers arrive to take advantage of their vulnerability. Unbeknownst to the townspeople, a devious scheme is in the works and soon will be ignited like a ticking ‘time bomb’. Lost memory will soon be revived, brought back to life, by traveling back in time to the place where it all began…to return to Buzzard Junction.
One of the things I’ve also enjoyed doing is to create a cover for my NaNo novels. Allan’s photograph,’The Buzzard,”is of a landscape decoration that we had purchased at a local shop. I think it makes a great image for this year’s cover.
